Stereotypes

Stereotypes still exist. In 2007, a study of 80 children aged 3 or 4 years showed that fathers were more concerned about the risky behavior of their daughters than their sons. Children may internalize parental concerns. Studies with 3-year-olds found that boys believe their father tolerates behaviors that can cause harm, while girls think they will protect them from their consequences. Researchers say this suggests that girls may learn to expect that others think they are more likely to be injured than boys, "and they are likely to internalize this vulnerability."
